So I wanted to post some pictures from the Haiti earthquake.  Another terrible happening, and i pray and hope for the best for the people there.

I know, it’s a Micheal Jackson song, but I think it’s probably his best one.  I love this song, and the lyrics are awesome.

I just read this article on CNN, so I thought I should share it with you guys.  It’s terrible, and I hope those wounded get better soon and I wish all the best to everyone there.  Obviously someone is up to something here.

Baghdad, Iraq (CNN) — At least 65 people were killed and 420 wounded in a double bombing in central Baghdad on Sunday morning, officials said.

Two car bombs detonated in quick succession near Iraqi government buildings, an interior ministry official said.

One of the bombs exploded outside Baghdad’s governorate building and the second one outside the justice ministry, about 500 meters (1,600 feet) away.

Iraqi and U.S. officials have warned of a possible increase in violence ahead of the country’s national elections scheduled for January 16.

Sunday’s attacks came a day after Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, completed a two-day visit to Iraq.

Among her stops was the foreign ministry, one of six sites that were attacked on August 19.

That day’s attacks killed at least 100 people and wounded hundreds more. The deadliest of the six were two suicide truck bombs that struck at the heart of Iraq’s government, hitting the finance and foreign ministries.

The August attacks shook confidence in the abilities of Iraqi security forces who took over securing urban areas from U.S. forces over the summer.

The Iraqi government blamed Syria for harboring former Baath party members who it said planned the attacks and asked for their handover.

Relations between the two neighbors were strained after the bombings. Each withdrew its ambassador from the other’s country.

Three major earthquakes struck within an hour and 10 minutes Thursday morning near Vanuatu in the South Pacific, prompting a tsunami warning that was quickly lifted.

They were part of series of nine moderate-to-major quakes that rattled the region in just over four hours.

The first quake, with a magnitude of 7.8, struck at 9:03 a.m. (6:03 p.m. ET) at a depth of 35 km (22 miles) and an epicenter 295 km (180 miles) north-northwest of Luganville, Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

A second quake, with a magnitude of 7.7, struck 15 minutes later at the same depth and an epicenter of 340 km (210 miles) north-northwest of Luganville.

The third quake, with a magnitude of 7.1, struck at 10:13 a.m. (7:13 p.m. ET) at about the same depth and an epicenter of 280 km (175 miles) north-northwest of Luganville.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued and then quickly lifted a regional tsunami warning and watch for parts of the Pacific near the first earthquake’s epicenter.

The first data from a buoy at Luganville on Vanuatu detected a tsunami wave of 4 centimeters (1.6 inches) at Luganville on Vanuatu, said Victor Sardina, a geophysicist with the center.

A second pulse of the wave was 10 centimeters (3.9 inches), he said. “It looks like a very small wave,” he told CNN in a telephone interview.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, Sardina said.

The two major quakes that followed the first one were aftershocks, Sardina said. When there’s a big quake, the pattern they follow is after the first quake, a second and then a third,” he said. “Those are obviously related,” he said.

At the Hotel Le Paris in Noumea, the capital of New Caledonia, the manager told CNN that she felt the shake but had not seen any damage.

On Espiritu Santo Island in Vanuatu, dive-shop owner Rehan Syed said he was aware of no reports of damages or injuries.

“We have the sun out and winds are pretty normal,” he told CNN. “Pretty cloudy skies but nothing more than that.”

“We felt the quake (my chair and my keyboard moved) but did not take too much notice as we live with shakes every week,” said John Nicholls of Vanuatu Hotels in an e-mail.

At the New Caledonia Hotel, guests were evacuated to higher ground, General Manager Torani George told CNN, adding that he had felt “nothing, nothing at all.”

“There is no panic, nothing,” he said.

Officials said the risk of another major disaster was easing because Pepeng (international code name: Parma) had changed direction slightly and was no longer headed for heavily populated regions of the main island of Luzon.

But heavy rain was falling across a swath of Luzon that is still flooded, and violent winds were battering the far-north province of Cagayan.

Trees were uprooted and power pylons toppled in the provincial capital of Tuguegarao, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) official Bonifacio Cuarteros told The Associated Press by telephone.

Cuarteros was also monitored on TV and radio saying local officials were reporting destruction in many areas.

“We pray that we won’t have a worse outcome, but with this kind of situation, we cannot really say,” he said.

Earlier in the day, weather forecasters said Pepeng was due to strike Cagayan on Saturday night, instead of hitting north-central Luzon on Saturday afternoon, as earlier forecast.

But the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 1:30 p.m. typhoon update Saturday that Pepeng’s speed increased to 24 kph and was expected to hit land at 3 p.m.

It was packing sustained winds that had also weakened slightly, to 175 kilometers per hour, down from 195 kph on Friday.

It was expected to make landfall in the eastern coast of Cagayan and then cross northern Luzon Sunday morning. It was estimated to be at 260 km west of Basco, Batanes or 270 km northwest of Laoag City Monday morning.

The better news for the Philippines was bad news for Taiwan, which issued a storm warning and began moving people out of villages in the southern county of Kaohsiung, said local official Lin Chun-chieh. Flash flooding from the last typhoon to hit the Kaohsiung killed about 700 people in August.

I have been reading about that typhoon in Philippines, that was hardcore.  In some ways it was worse than hurricane Katrina.  It makes me so sad to read about it.  Here’s the story:

(CNN) — Downpours subsided temporarily in the Philippines on Sunday, a day after Tropical Storm Ketsana pummeled the capital Manila with its heaviest rainfall in more than 40 years.

Flood spawned by the rainfall killed at least 75 people with at least 21 others missing, the government said.

More than 80 percent of the capital was under water that swallowed whole houses and buses.

Manila, in the island of Luzon, and the nearby province of Rizal bore the brunt of the storm. People huddled on rooftops Sunday waiting on army helicopters to pluck them to safety. Others used ropes to wade through waist-deep muddy waters.

Power and water supply failed in some areas. Roads were rendered impassable, making rescue efforts challenging.

“Right now the challenge is to find out how many people have actually died and how many people we have to take care of in terms of people who’ve been displaced,” said Richard Gordon, the chairman of the Philippines National Red Cross.

“We’re really talking about maybe hundreds of thousands of people,” with about 280,000 to 300,000 displaced in the island of Luzon alone, he said.

Though the Philippines is no stranger to floods, Saturday’s downpours approached a record, with a month’s worth of rain falling within six hours.

The average rainfall for the entire month of September is 391 mm (15.4 inches), said Gilberto Teodoro, secretary of national defense and chairman of the National Disaster Coordinating Council.

The capital experienced 341 mm (13.4 inches) between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., he said.

Officials worried that if the rains return, they could bring more floods if reservoirs burst.

“We’re hoping that there will be no more breaching of the dams,” Gordon said. “That’s one of the things that are very disconcerting to many people right now.”

Mike Anthony Catuira spent Sunday retrieving valuable belongings and seeking cover on higher ground. Overflowing rivers in the municipality of Tanay in Rizal province had inundated shops and homes, he said.

“The storm’s local name ‘Ondoy’ is really a powerful storm, and this is the most severe storm in my whole life,” he said in a report to iReport, the CNN Web site that allows people to submit pictures and videos.

Has anyone seen this movie?  My friends have been raving about it, even though I have read that it’s not that good (but I have to say the money it’s making at the box office tells us differently . )
